Caltech's Resnick Sustainability Institute And Fortune Magazine Partner To Identify And Highlight Innovative Work In The Field Of Sustainability

ASPEN, CO – JULY 24, 2013 – At FORTUNE's Brainstorm Tech Conference this week, a partnership between Caltech's Resnick Sustainability Institute and FORTUNE was announced designed to identify innovative work being done in the field of sustainability. Results of the partnership will be featured at FORTUNE's annual Brainstorm Green Conference scheduled for May 12-14, 2014.

“FORTUNE's Brainstorm Green gathers the ‘smartest people we know’ to work collaboratively on pressing sustainability issues,” said Brian Dumaine, Co-Chair of the conference. “We look forward to working closely with Caltech to identify some of the great green ideas on the horizon and showcase the people behind that work.”

In addition to lending expertise to the discussions, the Resnick Sustainability Institute will disclose at the Conference the first recipients of its new global innovation awards. The intent of the Awards is to draw attention to previously unheralded innovators making significant strides in the primary challenges facing humanity, within the context of achieving global sustainability. These challenges include meeting the world's energy needs sustainably, providing water and food for a growing world population, providing a healthy environment, and improving people's access to the resources they need to live a productive life.

Along with the award initiative, FORTUNE will work with the Resnick Institute to pinpoint some of today's top sustainability issues that can be addressed by science, and the conference will invite leading scientists to explore solutions to these challenges.

“The best way to unearth and influence some of the biggest solutions in sustainability is to enable business and science to work together,” said Dr. Harry Atwater, Director of the Resnick Sustainability Institute and Howard Hughes Professor and Professor of Applied Physics and Materials Science at Caltech. “The partnership between the Resnick Institute and the Fortune Brainstorm Green Conference is a big step toward bringing this dual focus into view.”
